This is not an official UCF site. Information contained here is simply to assist in answering all the questions that have been posted by students, staff, and faculty of all departments.

This phase-out is not curently approved by the Board of Trustees, but is a recommendation from the University Administration to the BOT. Answer to all questions that have been asked about this will be answered here - in the case where the University has issued a statement with this information, there will be a referral to that site.

What Programs are Affected?

Admissions to the following programs have been halted.

Bachelor of Science Engineering Technology

Bachelor of Science of Electrical Engineering Technology

Bachelor of Science Information System Technology

Master of Science Technology

The MS Digital Forensics will be picked up by Computer Science Department and the two tracks will be combined into a single track..

How many students are affected?

There are currently 563 students affected. We are compiling stats on how many students will be able to complete their  program of study and how many will not. We are working through these numbers and will post ASAP.

Sorry I have not had time to fill these out in detail; the teach out plan will allow 160 of 563 undergraduate students to graduate. This will require many part time students to take a full-time load.

What is the basis of this decision?

The announced decision is based on a potential financial savings, actual numbers of revenue and cost are being compiled and are reported below,

2007 $1.28 M $0.44 M $1.7 M

The program does not operate at a financial loss, and actually turns a slight positive based on the calculations of the department. I am trying to gather information from the University administration and will post this as they respond.

What will happen to the faculty and staff?

Faculty with more than 5 years of service are guaranteed a 2 year terminal contract. Faculty and staff with less than 2 years will either be let go at the end of the 2009-2010 academic year or retained as needed to complete the teach-out of all students. Faculty with more than 5 years will remain until Spring 2011.

What can we do to help or support?
